Summer is often a time when people tend to drink more. While many people feel they can drink alcohol with minimal negative impacts, others find that the negative parts about drinking are starting to outweigh the positive.
If you are tired of hangovers or the embarrassment that can come from getting a little too drunk at Aunt Susan's BBQ, it might be worth exploring your relationship with alcohol. What might it be like to try and cut back? Treat it like an experiment and see how it feels.

I get it, Coloradans. Marijuana is legal and generally socially acceptable. I'm not here to judge. Why I became a therapist
Hi, I’m Chelsea and I feel so lucky to live in the beautiful town of Durango. I was drawn to helping others at an early age and feel so fortunate to have turned that passion into a meaningful career. I decided to become a therapist after working at the local domestic violence shelter in Durango. I loved listening to the women share their stories, supporting them with their goals, and watching them grow. My mom was also a therapist, so I believe this is an innate part of who I am.
Mental Health and Men
On March 25th, I hosted my first event, Mental Health & Men at the Durango Public Library. The goal of the event was to raise awareness, reduce stigma, and promote local resources for men’s mental health. The event featured a statistics on men’s mental health, a panel discussion, and resource meet and greet of Durango area mental health professionals.
Here are some statistics on men’s mental health that demonstrate a need for a men’s specific event:
Men are 2-3 times more likely to abuse drugs or alcohol
Men are 4x more likely to die by suicide than women
Only 40% of men with a mental health disorder receive treatment
Only 17% of male sexual assault survivors seek out professional support
Men are more likely to wait until they are in a crisis to reach out for help
